“Europa – The Woman” is an on-going international art project involving artists and authors reflecting on feminine conceptions in a European context. Artists from across Europe are providing works in a variety of media. Participating artists currently include in Jean-Marie Biwer (Luxembourg), Tim Davies (Germany), Juliana Do (Bulgaria), Ewa Gargulinska (Poland), Juliette Goddard (UK), Solidea Guerra (Croatia), Marcelle Hanselaar and Mirjam Visker (Netherlands), Cornelia Krafft (Austria), Christine Robion (France), Mikkel Urup (Denmark), Victor Agius (Malta), Cristian Iotti (Italy) and André Wilhelm (Switzerland), the list is growing. The concept and inception is by crative producer Wilfried Rimensberger.
Supported by CESPA and Oxford University, the project, was launched in 2010 with an exhibition at New College’s Long Room Gallery. In 2011 “Europa – The Woman” had its second exhibition at the 12 Star Gallery, Europe House, in London’s Smith Square. There are plans for further exhibitions across Europe. A book depicting the artworks, contributing artists’ bios and subject related essays, written by academics and relevant authors, is now being put together and a documentary filmed. With various further strands, “Europa – The Woman” is envisaged to become a creative platform and conduit for communicating the inspiring role woman play in a European context.
